Frame Story

In 2016, Scientists on earth detected a fast radio burst from a distant region of space with no observable stars.  This signal contained a constant series of data packets and a decryption key.  Once it was decrypted, the data contained a number of transmissions from two planets in a Binary system.  Included in the data was a translation matrix that researchers used to translate the entries, as best as possible, into english.  The following transmissions were declassified by the scientific community and given to us to present.

A system with two stars, one in orbit around the other.  Each star has a planetary system that contains an inhabited world.  Technology has advanced enough to allow communication between the two planets.  While the planetary scientists are using these systems to discover more about each other’s civilization, other communication is also occurring that allows us to see a more relatable side of each planet’s lives.  The Scientists have been communicating for a number of years now, but a program has been instituted to allow youth transmissions. The first stories are from two young people, one from each planet, and their discoveries of each other’s world.

These are those stories.

The Project

Binary Saga is a collaborative writing project between Steve, Vanessa, and Paul. The idea came from the concept of two planets that are close enough for communication, but far enough that it’s little more than a Pen-Pal style of correspondence. Because of this, and how it is being written, each team is responsible for a single planet, and neither team knows much about the others plans, or planetary make up. This information is only related via the transmissions.

We are proud to announce that Season 3 is currently out now on all platforms! Season 1 and 2 also available.

The Music

Music is from Eric Matyas at http://www.Soundimage.org

Eric is a VERY talented musician and provides royalty free music for many projects.

The Hosts

Steve – Writer/Producer – Planet lead for Vela and the Von-La Planetary System. Part time Photographer, full time Systems Engineer, Lifetime Nerd. Steve has been fascinated with science fiction since before he could walk. Every form of media, from movies, to TV to video games has been ingested. Having never dabbled in writing before, this project is a dramatic shift from the norm. Known for a more comedic style, Steve has worked in webcomics and podcasts in the past, but never anything with a serious or dramatic note. The idea for this series came to Steve in the shower one night, just before attempting to go to sleep. As you can imagine, that was not a great night’s sleep. Steve voices the character of Jisto for Season 1 and 2 and Jayzun in Season 3.

Vanessa – Writer/Producer – Planet lead for Heimavinna and the Eluda Planetary System. Vanessa had her nose broken by a tall flag, worked as a character at Disneyland, and survived the Seattle music scene in the 90s. It’s no wonder she spends her free time rolling dice Faerun and shooting arrows in Azeroth. Obsessed with science fiction radio dramas as a kid, she still prefers to listen to books. Otherwise this Earthbound GenXer can be found stuck in DC beltway traffic or sailing out of Annapolis, MD. She also voices the character of Irja in Season 1 and 2 and Cecella “CJ” Jörgensen Neufpark in Season 3.

Paul – Writer/Producer – Supplemental writer for Heimavinna and the Eluda Planetary System. A bearded Renaissance man who would sometimes rather try it himself – even if it costs three times as much and takes way longer than he promised his wife it would. His free time is filled with books, board games, DM prep, and the occasional jaunt into Azeroth. Paul is on the search for the perfect martini, even if he’s already found it like a dozen times. Paul provided many voices for Season 1, voices the character of Helge Neufpark for Season 2, and Anduin “Andy” Venstrasa in Season 3.

Sarah is the chief editor for Vela. With multiple degrees in English and literature, Sarah keeps the writing for Vela on the neat and tidy. Able to spot a spelling mistake from 3 light years away she has been able to ensure that posts read well and helps the story along. She also has been the voice for Amai and an early version of Orie from Season 1.

Juliana Finch voices the character of Orie in Season 2 and 3. Voice acting is just one of Juliana’s many talents. She is a wonderful musician/songwriter and has a number of albums available. You can find all of her work over on http://www.julianafinch.com.
